Hiking tips from leisurely to alpine
There are countless hiking & tour tips in the immediate vicinity of our country hotel. We will be happy to help you with your planning on site and provide you with maps. If you prefer a more leisurely pace, choose paths through gentle hilly landscapes that lead through lakes, forests and green meadows:

Hiking tip
In the footsteps of Ludwig the Fairytale King: the king's former adopted home is located around Neuschwanstein Castle. Embark on a hike through the Pöllat Gorge, past Neuschwanstein Castle, to the Bleckenau Inn - the king's former hunting lodge (approx. 1.5 hours from the Hohenschwangau parking lot).

Hiking tip
Ostlerhütte on the Breitenberg: a leisurely 3-hour hike from the parking lot in Pfronten. At an altitude of 1,838 m, you can enjoy a fantastic view of the Allgäu and Tyrolean Alps and a hearty snack. You can then take the Breitenbergbahn cable car downhill in comfort.

Hiking tip
Säulinghaus (Tyrol/Austria) or Säuling summit: It takes around 2 hours to hike from Schwangau to the Säulinghaus at 1,720 m above sea level. From there, it takes another 45 minutes to climb up to the summit cross.
Hiking vacation in the Allgäu
The classic leisure activity in the Allgäu: hiking. Relaxation at the highest level, because the combination of physical exertion and the relaxing tranquillity of nature frees the soul. You can start your hiking vacation right from the hotel doorstep:

You can reach a large number of mountain lifts free of charge using regional transport. Simply get on opposite the hotel and enjoy.
Lakes
Combine your hiking vacation with a bike tour. Many bathing lakes can be easily reached by bike from the Landhotel Gockelwirt (between 5 and 14 km). So simply hire a bike and get pedaling!
Alpine pastures and huts
In the surrounding towns of Pfronten, Füssen or Nesselwang, there are numerous mountain tours of varying degrees of difficulty, which of course also lead past serviced huts:

Eisenbergrunde: Via the castle ruins, with a detour via the Drachenköpfle, to a cozy snack in the Schloßbergalm. Approx. 2.5 hours.

Allgäu Beer and Cheese Trail: From the nearby brewhouse in Speiden to the Lehern dairy in Hopferau. Approx. 1 hour.

See things from a different angle! There are several hiking trails around the royal castles that combine the impressive view of the Ostallgäu Alps with a view of Neuschwanstein Castle:

From Füssen to the castle
Walk from the old town of Füssen to Hohenschwangau: you start in the historic old town with its lively pedestrian zone and many places to stop for refreshments and walk to the royal castles

Royal hunting lodge
Hike from Neuschwanstein Castle to Berggasthof Bleckenau, the former hunting lodge of King Ludwig
(walking time approx. 1 ½ hours)

To Austria
Hike along the Fürstenweg from Neuschwanstein Castle to Austria/Tyrol to the "zum Schluxen" inn, where you can enjoy an excellent lunch

Ruins from the hotel door
Start directly from the hotel in the direction of Eisenberg Tourist Information. The "Drachenkopfweg" trail begins there, first leading through the forest and ending after a short walk across a meadow at the Schlossbergalm. From there, it is only a stone's throw (approx. 10 minutes) to the largest and most beautiful ruins in Bavaria. The Freyberg ruins are impressive in size, while the Eisenberg ruins with their vantage point offer a wonderful panoramic view of the Alpine foothills. If you then make your way back via Zell, you can find out more about the castles in the castle museum (open Sat/Sun and public holidays, 2 - 5 pm).
